How to Test a Solar Water Pump?

Testing photovoltaic water pumps is of great significance to ensure the efficient, reliable, economical, and environmentally friendly operation of the system. Through comprehensive testing, potential problems can be discovered and solved, system configuration can be optimized, maintenance costs can be reduced, and environmental benefits can be maximized. Testing solar water pumps mainly involves its performance, safety, and compatibility. The following is a detailed test process.

Preparation for solar water pump installation

  1. Check the equipment:
Make sure that the solar water pump and its supporting equipment (such as photovoltaic panels, controllers, inverters, etc.) are intact and connected correctly.
  2. Test environment:
Choose an environment with sufficient light and stability for testing to ensure that the solar water pump can obtain enough solar energy to drive.
  3. Measuring tools:
Prepare measuring tools such as multimeters, flow meters, force sensors, etc., to detect parameters such as voltage, current, flow, and pressure.

Performance test

  1. Startup and shutdown test:
Adjust the DC input source so that the DC side voltage starts to increase from below the lower limit of the solar inverter's allowable DC voltage range. When the voltage is higher than the lower limit of the allowable range, check whether the solar power inverter can automatically start up. After the inverter is stable, adjust the DC input source so that the DC side voltage drops below the lower limit of the allowable range, and check whether the inverter can automatically shut down.Solar water pump
  2. Operation performance test:
Perform an operation performance test on the photovoltaic water pump system in accordance with the test requirements in the relevant standards or appendices. Observe and record the flow, head, power, and other parameters of the water pump to ensure that they meet the requirements of the product manual or relevant standards.
  3. Output capacity test:
Simulate different lighting conditions by adjusting the angle of the photovoltaic panel or blocking part of the photovoltaic panel. Under different lighting conditions, measure and record the output power, flow and head of the water pump and other parameters. Analyze the test results and evaluate the output capacity of the water pump under different lighting conditions.

Safety performance test

  1. Electrical safety test:
Use a multimeter to detect the resistance between the power connector of the water pump and the exposed metal position of the shell to ensure that there is no path (that is, the water pump is not burned).
Check whether the cables and connectors of the water pump are firm and reliable and whether there is no exposure or damage.
  2. Protection function test:
Perform a protection test for the blocked rotation of the water pump: jam the motor rotor of the water pump, start the inverter and check whether the working status of the controller/inverter meets the requirements.
  3. Perform a water pump idling protection test:
It starts the inverter without the water source and checks the working status of the controller/inverter.
  4. Perform a water shortage protection test:
It can make the water level in the water source of the solar panels for home system lower than the water inlet of the water system, and check the working status of the controller/inverter.
  5. Perform a water clarification protection test:
It can make the water level in the water storage device of the photovoltaic water pump system higher than the manually set high water level alarm point, and check the working status of the controller/inverter.

Compatibility test

  1. Compatibility with other equipment:
Test the compatibility of solar water pumps with controllers, inverters, and other equipment of different brands and models to ensure that they can work together and achieve the expected results.
  2. Environmental adaptability test:
Test the performance and stability of the water pump under different climatic conditions (such as high temperature, low temperature, humidity, etc.) to evaluate its environmental adaptability.

Test records and analysis

  1. Record test data:
Record various parameters and data in detail during the test, including voltage, current, flow, head, power, etc.
  2. Analyze test results:
Sort and analyze the test data to evaluate whether the performance, safety, and compatibility of the solar water pump meet the requirements.
  3. Write a test report:
Write a detailed test report based on the test results, including the purpose of the test, test methods, test data, analysis results, and suggestions.
